Today marks the end of the planet offer, all them planets have been destroyed. But dont worry, you can still play Solo mode.
Dear Mayors,
As you know, after a great run of 6 months, the Planet Offer came to an end today monday ,march 8th 2010, at 11:25 am (GMT+1). But the Cities XL adventure goes on with the Solo game!
To celebrate this, the Bus is coming for free in the Solo game! You may now access more advanced urban planning options and enjoy the delights of mass transit during the rush hour!
You can now connect to the game and download the latest patch to get the Bus. If you have bought (or reinstalled) Cities XL recently a special patch is available for you that will enable you to get all the updates released so far at once, on top of the Bus. Please note that starting tomorrow (Tuesday march 9) the patch will still be available through the game’s launcher but you will have to install it manually.
If you have played online you may be sad to not have your Planet cities available in the Solo game.. All is not lost! Some players went out of their ways and found how to convert some Planet cities into Solo cities. On top of that the process isn’t too complicated. To learn more read our article.
Once more we want to thank you for your great support and for participating so actively in the Planet Offer since Cities XL’s release in last October.
Come back on our site soon for more information regarding the new upcoming Solo contents and the new version of the game; which Monte Cristo is already working on…
Stay tuned!
- The Monte Cristo team

| I know many people was frustrated after the end of PO announcement. The major question was, what would be the cities that we had created on the planets. Today, I managed to open my PO city on the solo mode.
It is a pretty simple procedure, even I have not completed it yet:
1. First find the last local saved file for your online city. The directory structure may change, but in windows7 it is
C:\Users\[win7username]\AppData\Local\Monte Cristo\Cities XL\upload
2. Copy the .sav file (mine was cxl_0005ecbb_00000247.sav) to the solo directory
again on win 7 it was
C:\Users\[win7username]\AppData\Local\Monte Cristo\Cities XL\live\benekli\solo
3. rename one of the solo save files to the from *.sol to *.old, just to be safe.
I have changed the last file on my last region in order to find the city easily…
4. rename the PO save file that you have copied to the solo directory to the solo save file
E.g.
cxl_0005ecbb_00000247.sav -> solosaveregion6map3.sol
Run the game in solo mode, find your map (e.g. Mine was the only city on my last region, so I did not face a lot of problems)
OK, what I have and have not tested yet:
a. It doesn’t seem to be a problem that the city map does or does not exists on solo mode
b. The already built BPs are there with their effect. But it is not possible to assign tokens to the unfinished ones.
c. Your economy shall be in bad shape. Just pause the game, and trade with Don…
d. The solo game seems to be properly saving the map.
e. I don’t have any idea about what happens to the buses, since my city did not have any lines
f. related with item c. the mod which provides more natural prices from Don eases the life.
g. Your cash on PO city is kept on the solo city.
h. The city name is not shown correctly, I think it needs an update on the configuration xml files.

The time has come but in not offical, so be careful:
If you have played online and are now coming back to the Solo game you may miss your Planet cities… All is not lost! Some players in our community are full of resources… Read on to learn more.

With the upcoming closure of the Planet Offer many players have asked us if it is possible to convert Planet cities and get them in their Solo game. Although the two types of cities have some key differences (contracts, blueprints, overall economy) some players have been skillful enough to find a way to convert Planet cities…
There is a downside to this, as some of the online resources (contracts) will be missing from the game and your city’s economy will be shaken because of that. Also, Blueprints that haven’t been completed will stay how they are. Still in most cases this will be a good basis to enjoy your city again in Solo and maybe it give a new direction!
On top of that the process isn’t too complicated. To learn more about the process you can refer to this article put together by the tricky Simtropolis members:
>> (please see the next post from us on how to do this)
Note : This operation involves manipulating and modifying games files, and is not supported by Monte Cristo.

At the moment the Cities XL site is currently down, and will be back, hopefully, tomorrow with two new sites. One for us Solo players and a temporary one for the current planet offer players.
So With the new site, hopefully MC will again stay connected, and we’ll get more information on Cities XL 2011

Yes the title is right, The buses are coming to Solo, and because my subscription expired a month ago, I haven’t played for a while. Well at least I can continue to play, as soon as the buses come into the game.
Before I do post what Cities XL have said, I will also say, why has it taken MC Cthis long to comunicate to us, we still dnt know who the contest winners are. How annoying.
As was recently announced many evolutions are coming for Cities XL. In order to prepare the upcoming end of Planet Offer the site will be put offline for maintenance all of tomorrow, and two important changes will appear: a whole new site; and Buses will be available for solo players!
This Thursday (february 23) we will have a brand new the Cities XL site! As a matter of fact, we will not have one, but two sites online at the same time for a while.
The whole Community part of the site currently dedicated to the Planet offer will stay in place, but it will move to a new address and become planet.citiesxl.com. As its name implies this site will keep all of its current features to allow Planet offer players to fully enjoy both the game and the site until march 8th. Until that day, you will be able to use the site to manage your cities, trade tokens, get blueprints, and read (or write) City Journals. (If you want to back up your city journals, make sure to do it while they are online.
)
Aside this, the current site www.citiesxl.com will be updated to better fit the solo game, and this new version will be online Thursday.
In order to properly set up all this the site will be offline for maintenance all of Wednesday. (The game will remain online). To be more precise: the whole site will go offline tonight at midnight (Paris time – GMT+1) and will be back Thursday at around noon.

On top of the new site(s), as promised: Buses are coming for free for the solo game this week! At first they will be available for all players who aren’t currently subscribed to the Planet Offer, as soon as this Thursday afternoon. And in order to be able to play the Bus you will only need to download a small patch. Planet offer players will keep enjoying Buses online before accessing them in the solo game once their subscription expires.

Just when I thought EA have abandoned SimCity, SimPrograms comes out with the news post: “EA to return to the SimCity franchise with ‘SimCity World’?”
Now Its not all what you think, As I read a bit further on, it does say that EA has registered the Domain, and was created 10 years ago but was only registered a month ago. Could this be something where EA just brought the domain to protect there trademark or is there a new SimCity on the way? We dont know.
Maybe there is a new SimCity, but in what format, Facebook App, Ds/wii game or a full on PC/Mac game, the next SimCity.
OR Maybe its a new site for simcity, to group them up, like the sims 2 splash page. But wouldnt they just do it in simcity.com
I dont think we’ll know right know, no one will well except EA. Lets see what the next few months bring us.
Edit:
Although, after close inspection, of the comments many people coming out with fake, mainly at the image provided, but Im not interested in that, Im more interested in the domain, why would ea register it?

Most traces of the planet offer have been removed off the Monte Cristo Website. Except for in there menu with just go to their news thread about the planet offer being removed.
So now what MC, well they have been going on about Cities XL 2011, which will feature every Cities XL was going to have, but what I don’t understand is, why can’t they just add it to our solo mode over time, instead of having to wait an entire year for the features we want.
Other Questions include are, will Cities XL 2011 be free to current CXL Players or do we have to pay to upgrade, what will users do with CXL til 2011, will MC allow mods to be support for CXL while we wait??
There are many questions I want answering, and with support lacking in responses, how will they be answered, I’ve already emailed them two time, since Matthew left MC, communication has become unresponsive.
So MC, when will you answers are questions?
